After all, now with the Freestyler 3 our new F3F machine is finished. The slope lift is the living space where the Freestyler 3 feels well. Doesn't matter if it is a tiny coastal ridge or a giant alpine mountain - the glide ratio and the achievable speed are fascinating again and again.
"All you need is speed!" - that had been the motto when designing the first Freestyler. The design goal was pretty clear - the Freestyler was supposed to have outstanding performance in the higher speed range. Which it had. Right away we could achieve remarkable success - winning the Viking Race 2002, a double victory in Hanstholm 2002 and 2./3. places at the International German Championships F3F in 2001/2003/2005 are the most important.
But to become fast one has to get to height before. A compromise between low drag in fast flight and low minimum sink rate is necessary. Staying up often was not so easy with the first version in weak lift conditions.
Here development of the Freestyler 3 took its starting point. It was desired to improve slow flight performance and glide ratio at velocities in the 50 s region, without deteriorating performance in the sub-40 range. First flight experiences with the prototype showed, that the compromise between low sink and top speed could be managed optimally with the Freestyler 3.
Furthermore it excels with high agility. This is particularily important when
flying at small slopes and essential for achieving contest victories.
Despite the lay-out as a competition plane, the Freestyler 3 is well transportable. Taking it along on holidays must not fail due to transport capability. For this reason the wing and the V-tail are two-piece, allowing a small packaging size.
